Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) National Conference 2023

Attending the 2023 SASE National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia was an experience that offered both personal career growth and the opportunity to support fellow SASE members. With my upcoming internship at Arup already secured, I didn’t need to search for a job. Instead, I focused on networking with professionals and helping others in their job search. I took on an informal mentorship role, assisting my peers with resumes, interview prep, and navigating the job market while connecting them with professionals I met.

Beyond mentorship, the conference also allowed me to focus on my development. I received valuable advice from industry professionals on how to enhance my resume, aligning it better with my goals and future aspirations. Reflecting with them on my journey as an undergraduate student helped me assess my progress and gain clarity on the steps I needed to take moving forward. They provided guidance on areas to strengthen and shared insights into transitioning from student life to a professional career. Their advice gave me confidence in my path and a clearer vision of how to navigate the next stage of my journey.

In all, the conference allowed me to grow, both by helping others and by reflecting on my own progress with seasoned professionals. It was a rewarding experience that deepened my connections within the SASE community and prepared me for the next chapter of my career.

WECode Conference 2024

Attending WECode 2024 at Harvard University was an incredibly educational experience for me, particularly in the fields of AI and computer security. Through various workshops, panels, and networking opportunities, I gained a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence, including its practical applications and ethical considerations. The event also provided insights into the latest advancements in cybersecurity, teaching me about protecting systems from potential threats and understanding vulnerabilities in different types of software and networks.

One of my favorite parts, however, was learning how to play the card game Wizard at a workshop led by Susquehanna International Group. It was completely different from other games I had played because of its unique ways of winning and the strategic depth involved. The game requires you to make predictions and balance those with your actual performance each round, a strategy that directly relates to critical thinking, risk-taking, and problem-solving skills I use as an engineer and consultant. Just like in engineering or consulting projects, you must assess the situation, weigh the risks, and make decisions that may influence long-term outcomes. Wizard's strategy mirrors the need to anticipate challenges, adapt to new information, and find innovative ways to succeed.

Playing Wizard was so much fun that it even made me wonder if trading could be a possible career path. The game's blend of strategy, risk management, and forecasting outcomes sparked my curiosity about how these skills might translate into the world of trading.
