Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) at NYU
My leadership journey within the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) has been both fulfilling and transformative. Serving as Vice President of the NYU Chapter since May 2024, I've had the privilege of leading a vibrant community of over 283 active members. This role has not only been about managing tasks or overseeing projects but also about fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
One of the aspects I value most about SASE is how it brings people together, creating a supportive environment where everyone feels welcome. With such a large and diverse membership, we've embraced cultural awareness as a cornerstone of our community. Through events and initiatives, we've celebrated different cultures, promoted dialogue, and provided a platform for members to share their unique perspectives.
As Vice President, I’ve focused on ensuring our chapter remains a space where everyone can grow personally and professionally. From managing the team to overseeing projects, I’ve ensured tasks stay on track while fostering accountability through effective delegation and consistent follow-ups. Prepared to step into the President’s role when needed, I’ve also played a key part in decision-making processes, addressing event proposals, challenges, and policies.
Before stepping into the Vice President role, I served as the Professional Chair from August 2023 to May 2024. In this role, I organized professional events, collaborated with other societies, and helped attendees prepare for conferences, career fairs, and interviews. I also handled the creative side, designing posters and announcements to engage members.
Through both roles, I’ve not only honed my leadership and event management skills but have also had the chance to contribute to a community that values inclusivity and cultural awareness. It’s been incredibly rewarding to be part of a group that not only advances professional development but also strengthens bonds within a diverse and dynamic community.
